Finnish Jewish track champion. He won a team gold medal in the 1924 Olympics as part of the 3000 meter team run (a discontinued event). He was one of Finlands top runners in the heyday of Finnish track dominance in the 20s.(We wish to thank a Finnish visitor for this and several other entries).

Amazing all-around athlete. Gold medal in 400 Relay and a Silver medal in the 100 at the 1928 games. She held, at one time, the Canadian records in the long jump, discus, shot, javelin, and standing long jump. Voted Canadas female athlete of the first half of the 20thC. She was also reported to be quite funny.
Directed NYC Marathon from inception in 1970. Transformed it from local race to worldwide event. Wrote several books on running. Holocaust survivor. Died a few years ago.
