Maxie Berger

Biography:


Maxie Berger (born February 23, 1917, in Montreal, Canada) was a Canadian boxer who was Jewish.

He fought as a flyweight, junior welterweight, and welterweight from 1935-46, and in 134 fights had a record of: Won 99 (KOs 25), Lost 24, Drawn 9.

In August 1935, Berger was at the British Empire Games in Wembley. He had made his way to the flyweight amateur finals. He dropped a close decision to Joe Palmer of England. The crowd thought that Berger had won.

Berger was recognized by the Montreal Athletic Commission as the Junior Welterweight Champion of the World for 1939.

He also won the Canadian Lightweight Title in late 1937.
