David Helfgott

David Helfgott - Child piano prodigy whose life was depicted in the film "Shine". His sister, who lives in Israel, has written a very credible "counter-biography". His father was not a Holocaust survivor as depicted in the film (emigrated in 33 to Australia) & was not viewed as a tyrant by anyone, incl. David, before the film. The filmmakers refused to listen to anyone but Davids present wife (the father was long dead when David met his present wife). Moreover, after years of therapy, Helfgotts level of function was quite high before the marriage (and if his recent disastrous tour is any indication, has not improved much since the marriage). But that doesnt make great drama.
