Charlotte Salomon - (1917-42) Talented German Jewish painter who left an extraordinary final art work. Born in an affluent Berlin family, she went to France in the '30s. She was interred in a French concentration camp and eventually deported to Auschwitz, where she was killed--four months pregnant. Before her final deportation, she created a work called "Life"? or "Theater"? A multi-media work featuring her paintings, text she wrote, and music she composed. She hid this work with a family friend and it survived the war. It is now (2000) touring America--and it is an extraordinary testament to her talent. -->" /> Jewogle Charles Sherman
